I shot with Axel and had a great time. I learned a lot and got to see a part of Japan that I would not have been able to on my own. I was fortunate enough to take a few good pictures and have actually blown one up and hung it in my office.

Me and my teenage daughter took the Osaka private night tour. We do not have experience in night and urban photography so we learned a lot and even got some great tips about how to look at the urban landscape in order to photograph eye catching photos. In short in 2.5 hours we took a course of a month… So we are very grateful to our teacher who was patient and gave us confidence to use our new skills . ALL in ALL GREAT!

The guys from Eyexplore are great photography technique teachers. Entertaining and more importantly patient coaches.

A great way to explore a new city as well as to know how to use the camera better. Axel is a very good and patient photographer with a great eye for angles and subject. It was a very enriching session and it passed by in a breeze. Even though it was cold, it was so engaging that you hardly notice the weather! Very worth the time and every penny! Thanks Axel for being an excellent teacher

Was lucky enough to get a hands-on training on how to handle my camera. My goal was to avoid relying on Auto-Mode all the time and I got more than I expected. For an amateur in photography, composing or knowing which angle to shoot is pretty challenging. But having joined the workshop, I’ve learned where to look and what to take note when you’re shooting. I’m impressed by the skill and patience of my EyeExplore trainer. Looking forward to the next one!

I had the good fortune of participating in 2 of these photography tours in May – the Tokyo Metropolis and the Osaka Jungle (night tour). They were both amazing with very skilled, attentive, personable and creative photographers leading the tours. I had visited both cities before but it was exciting to see them through the eyes of a photographer – I saw many views I would not have noticed on my own. They both assisted with the technical side of operating the camera as well. Instructions as to where to meet were well laid out and not difficult to find. Good value as well. I would highly recommend both of these tours. I look forward to my next trip to Japan to participate in more photo tours with EYExplore.

I can’t say enough positive things about this tour. I did the first one in Tokyo and it was so great I booked another one in Osaka. I’ve been a hobby photographer for a little while but I think I learned more about composition (and my camera!) in these 2.5 hours spent wandering around parts of the cities I might not have gone to than at any other point. Lukas was my guide in Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolis) and he was just all sorts of cool and really down to earth. Took the time to explain everything in detail and made sure you got the shot you wanted. I met Axel in Osaka for the Osaka Jungle tour and we really just carried on where we left off it seems with the Tokyo tour. Very kind and full of great insights into unique shots and locations.

Highly recommended!! Anyone who wants to explore Japan and seriously improve their photography should absolutely take a workshop from EYExplore. I took the Osaka Jungle workshop and the insight / tutelage provided by Axel was invaluable.

  9. kieucumber

I’ve been to the Tokyo night workshop previously and enjoyed it a lot so I was excited when I noticed that they opened workshops in the Kansai area. I went on the Osaka jungle tour and since I was the only one on the tour, I was able to get one on one time and was able to really learn a lot on how to use my camera at night. If you want a unique, non-touristy experience in Japan with prices that are so reasonable for a tour with a professional photographer, I would definitely recommend any of the EYExplore tours.

We meet inside JR Osaka station at the "Toki no Hiroba" square in front of the big golden clock. This square is located on the connection bridge above the train tracks. When in doubt, ask the station staff* about "Toki no Hiroba."

If you are in Osaka...
1. Go to JR Osaka station
2. Head towards the "Connecting Bridge"
3. Take the escalators up towards the 5th floor
4. You should see a big Golden clock soon
5. You are at "Toki no Hiroba", the meeting spot
6. When in doubt ask station/information staff for "Toki no Hiroba" square*

If you come from Kyoto...
1. Go to JR Kyoto station
2. Take an express train towards Osaka (20 minutes)
3. DO NOT take the Shinkansen
4. Upon arrival go up the escalator on the platform
5. Alight at the "Bridge Exit"
6. Pass the turnstile head right towards "North Central Exit"
7. Take the escalators up towards the golden clock
8. You are at "Toki no Hiroba", the meeting spot
9. When in doubt ask station/information staff for "Toki no Hiroba" square*

* Osaka station is a maze, when asking for directions don't ask a local looking person: ask station personnel only!
